A Leesburg woman was detained for driving under the influence after hitting several barricades on her way home from drinking rum in Mount Dora.
A deputy spotted 25-year-old Kennedy Rae Hall driving a white Hyundai passenger car at high speeds in Leesburg at about 2:20 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The Hyundai matched the description of a suspect car in a hit-and-run reported by the Eustis Police Department, and it was still unable to maintain its lane. Before the deputy could activate the emergency lights, the car collided with five construction barricades and came to a halt in a work site on U.S. Hwy. 441 near the intersection with Dixie Avenue, according to the report.
When I spoke with Hall, she explained that she was unable to park her car since she had already turned it off. She tried several times to properly switch it on and put it in park but failed. The report said she was asked to exit the car so other deputies could park it.
The vehicle was later determined to be the identical one that escaped a traffic accident in the EPD’s jurisdiction. Hall slurred her words and had watery eyes. According to the report, she stated that she had two rum drinks in a car in Mount Dora and was driving home from the Sorrento area.
Hall also volunteered to engage in field sobriety tests but swayed throughout them. Her performance led deputies to believe she was under the influence. She later provided breath samples of 0.106 and 0.103, according to the report.
The Leesburg Police Department also came to the location to investigate property damage. According to the report, officers believed that the damaged barricades were worth around $100 each.
Hall was arrested for DUI with property damage and taken to Lake County Jail. She was released after posting a $2000 bond.
