A Leesburg man was arrested on drug charges after deputies discovered cocaine in his possession during a traffic stop.
A deputy saw a gray Jeep driven by 40-year-old Jermiah Jermaine Johnson run a stop sign at the intersection of Snowberger Avenue and Industrial Street in Leesburg around 11:10 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. A check of the tag revealed that it belonged to Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM of Leesburg.
The deputy stopped the vehicle at 2716 Seminole Trail and spoke with the driver, who stated that he did not have his license. The driver also refused permission to have his vehicle searched. According to the report, the deputy issued a warning for the stop sign violation and lack of license as a K-9 unit arrived on the scene.
The K-9 identified the smell of drugs, leading to the removal of both the driver and Johnson from the vehicle. Deputies discovered a broken glass smoking device in the passenger seat, as well as a white contact case filled with cocaine. The report stated that there was a baggie next to it containing additional cocaine.
Johnson was then arrested on allegations of cocaine possession and drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the Lake County Jail and freed after posting a $3,500 bond.
