Two Mexican nationals, Felix Ortiz-Plata and Anuar Castaneda Ortiz, have pleaded guilty to major drug trafficking charges after authorities seized more than 260 pounds of methamphetamine.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, officers discovered the meth on Dec. 5, 2022, during a vehicle stop. Inside Castaneda Ortiz’s car, investigators found 90 plastic bags filled with methamphetamine.
Ortiz-Plata pleaded guilty on Aug. 8, 2025, to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. On Monday, Castaneda Ortiz admitted to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
The case stemmed from a joint investigation involving the Drug Enforcement Administration and the California Highway Patrol.
Ortiz-Plata will be sentenced on Nov. 21, 2025, and Castaneda Ortiz on Dec. 19, 2025. Both men face up to life in prison and a $10 million fine, though the court will weigh multiple factors before issuing final sentences.
