The Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Lakeland man Friday evening after he was caught driving dangerously fast on the Polk Parkway. Robert Michael Vaughan, 37, was arrested after a deputy clocked his vehicle going 113 mph in a 65 mph zone.
At 9:54 p.m., a PCSO officer on patrol noticed a 2004 Nissan 350Z moving at a fast speed. A radar check revealed that the car was traveling at nearly double the posted speed limit.
A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver, Mr. Vaughan, was pulled over. According to the deputy’s report, when queried about his speed, Vaughan said he had “no idea” he was traveling so fast.
Despite having no prior traffic infractions in Florida, Mr. Vaughan was detained and sent to the Sheriff’s Processing Center. He’s been charged with dangerous excessive speeding.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reminds drivers of the significance of following speed limits for the safety of all motorists.
