Labor Day Crashes Kill One And Seriously Injured 3 People

Two crashes occurred twenty minutes apart on Monday morning, September 1, 2025, killing a 31-year-old Elkton man and critically injuring three others.

According to Delaware State Police, at about 1:40 a.m., a wrong-way motorist on Route 301 in Middletown died after colliding with a truck head-on. The individual who died was later identified as Sean Hannon.

The truck driver, a 60-year-old man, and his passenger, a 62-year-old woman from Yonkers, New York, were seriously injured.

Then, at approximately 2 a.m., a box truck veered off northbound I-95 at the Otts Chapel Road overpass, colliding with a concrete bridge structure.

According to New Castle County EMS, the 54-year-old motorist was treated after more than one-hour extrication by firefighters from Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Fire Company, and Singerly Fire Company of Elkton.

The victim was sent to Christiana Hospital in critical condition.
