A suspect barricaded himself inside a pickup truck outside a Palmdale home Thursday evening following a police pursuit, prompting a SWAT response from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities said the man, wanted for assault with a deadly weapon, refused to exit the vehicle after crashing near 35th Street East and Avenue R-4. Deputies urged nearby residents to shelter in place and find alternate routes while surrounding homes were evacuated during the standoff.
The LA County Fire Department responded to the crash at approximately 7 p.m., but deputies instructed firefighters to stage at a safe distance. No injuries were reported at the scene.
The standoff remained ongoing as authorities worked to safely resolve the situation.
