A Killeen woman was sentenced to three years in jail on Thursday after being charged with impersonating a Houston attorney with the same name in at least three counties.
Amber Kay Morrison, 37, pleaded guilty to one count of falsely representing oneself as an attorney, a third-degree felony, and was sentenced to three years in prison by 19th State District Judge Thomas West under the conditions of her plea agreement.
Morrison was sentenced to 15 months in jail for similar claims in Bell County earlier this year, and he is facing two comparable counts in Galveston County, according to court documents.
According to an arrest document, investigators from the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office contacted Houston attorney Amber Morrison, who acknowledged, “This person is not her and has been an ongoing problem of stealing her professional identity as a licensed Texas lawyer.”
Amber Morrison, a licensed attorney, stated at a Bell County bond hearing in July 2023 that she had gotten many reports of someone attempting to impersonate her and was forced to post a notice on the State Bar of Texas website that her name was being used.
Morrison, according to the complaint, also goes by Amber Johnson and Amber Krypczyk. In June 2023, a McLennan County woman informed the sheriff’s office that someone purporting to be attorney Amber Morrison phoned her son and offered to represent him in a family law dispute.
The mother stated that she and her son paid Morrison $1,700 in four installments to represent him.
