An inmate was critically injured Thursday morning after three others attacked him at Wasco State Prison, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).
The assault happened around 10:20 a.m. in a prison yard. CDCR officials said staff intervened immediately and stopped the attack.
The injured inmate was taken to an outside hospital, where he remains in critical condition. No staff members were hurt.
Officers recovered three improvised weapons at the scene. Prison officials confirmed the suspected attackers will be moved to restricted housing.
