Indianapolis Man Detained In Chicago For Death Of 2-year-old Girl

A 23-year-old Indianapolis man has been detained in Chicago in connection with the death of his 2-year-old daughter, police said Friday. Leon’ta Anderson is charged with negligence of a dependent, which resulted in death.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), in collaboration with the United States Marshals Service and the Chicago Police Department, pursued Anderson to Chicago after he allegedly fled Indianapolis following the tragic event. The lawsuit originates from the unfortunate death of Harmoney Anderson, who was admitted to Methodist Hospital on July 11 with gunshot wounds. She was later pronounced deceased.

Detectives determined that the crime took place at a home on Ralston Avenue in Indianapolis. Police seized many guns from the home after executing search warrants. Two people were initially detained at the hospital but were released after additional consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

Anderson’s arrest warrant was issued on August 20. Authorities suspect Anderson escaped Indianapolis for Chicago, where he was apprehended and jailed without incident on August 28. Anderson will be extradited to Indianapolis to face charges in the case.

“An arrest is not a conviction. Anderson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law,” police emphasized.
