Illinois Man Convicted of First-Degree Murder in 2020 Beating Death of His Wife

An Illinois judge has found Alan Wang, 61, formerly of Naperville, guilty of first-degree murder in the brutal 2020 killing of his wife, 35-year-old Hongyan Yang.

The verdict was delivered by Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh following a four-day bench trial that concluded on September 12, 2025, according to DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin.

The Incident

On the evening of March 7, 2020, Wang and Yang were in their bedroom at their home on the 1100 block of North Mill Street when Wang allegedly discovered text messages from another man on his wife’s phone. In a fit of rage, prosecutors said, Wang kicked his wife multiple times, inflicting severe internal injuries.

The next day, March 8, 2020, around 4:50 p.m., a relative called 911 after Yang appeared to have stopped breathing. Naperville Police and Fire Department personnel responded, and Yang was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 5:54 p.m.

An investigation conducted by the Naperville Police Department and the DuPage County Coroner’s Office determined that blunt force trauma from assault caused Yang’s death.

Wang now faces a mandatory prison sentence for first-degree murder. His sentencing date has not yet been announced.
