Illinois Drug Bust: 25 Pounds of Cannabis Seized Following California To Chicago Flight

A California-to-Illinois cannabis trafficking operation was discovered this week after an arrest at O’Hare International Airport led detectives to more than 25 pounds of suspected cannabis, according to the Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group (KAMEG).

Authorities said James Tsirikos, 26, of Saint Anne, was arrested at 5:15 a.m. Tuesday after arriving on a flight from California. Agents reportedly discovered over 5,200 grams (11.5 pounds) of suspected cannabis in his hands at the airport.

The arrest led to a series of search warrants throughout Kankakee County, during which officers discovered an additional 11,500 grams (about 25 pounds) of suspected cannabis linked to the investigation. Corey Q. Felton, 27, of Bourbonnais, was also detained and charged with intending to deliver more than 500 grams of cannabis.

Officials said the bust marks the end of a months-long investigation into suspected cannabis trafficking between California and Illinois. KAMEG was aided by local and state law enforcement, and the matter is still being reviewed by the Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s Office.
