U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is conducting Operation Midway Blitz in Chicago. The operation focuses on apprehending non-citizens with serious criminal convictions. Local authorities, including Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, have stated their disapproval of the operation.
On November 19, 2025, ICE apprehended numerous people with prior offenses. Angel Gonzalez Di Luca, a 27-year-old Venezuelan, was convicted of domestic abuse involving strangulation. Juan Toledo Vasquez, 54, of Mexico, was convicted of severe criminal sexual assault of a child and possessing a false ID. He’d been deported twice previously.
Other arrests were 31-year-old Jose Juarez Soto of Mexico, who was convicted of domestic violence and criminal recklessness, and 34-year-old Hector Teja Solis of Mexico, who was convicted of armed robbery resulting in bodily injury. Miguel Angel Portillo Pacheco, 29, of El Salvador, was detained after serving time for domestic assault and armed robbery.
Domingo Sanchez Hernandez, 47, of Mexico, was arrested following several convictions, including DUI and domestic assault. ICE noted that these arrests are part of its continuous efforts to enforce immigration laws. The agency stated that coordination with local authorities remains minimal.
All of those apprehended are in ICE detention pending additional immigration procedures or removal. ICE urges people to report crimes or suspicious activity using its hotline or online tip form. The agency continues to update its activity on social media.
