Husband Accused of Setting Wife on Fire in Tulare County

A Tulare County man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly setting his wife on fire inside their Porterville home, according to the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office.

Authorities said Sean Hofmann, 36, sprayed gasoline on his wife and then ignited it, leaving her with severe burns on her face, arms, and torso. The victim was airlifted to the Grossman Burn Center in Bakersfield, where she remains in a medically induced coma but is reported to be in stable condition.

A GoFundMe page, organized by the victim’s son, has been created to help cover food and transportation expenses for her children during her recovery.

Hofmann faces several felony charges, including attempted murder, torture, mayhem, arson causing great bodily injury, and domestic violence. If convicted on all counts, he could face life in prison. His court appearance is scheduled for next week.

Ilene Parra, director of client services for the Open Door Network, urged the public to get involved in preventing domestic violence.

“Educate yourself on the resources that are out there,” Parra said. “Be the voice for those who are still living in this cycle and the hope that there is a way out.”

The Open Door Network provides vital support for domestic violence victims, offering case management, therapy, shelter, and housing assistance.
