Police charged a Homestead woman with attempted murder after she stabbed a man she met through social media when he called her a derogatory name Sunday night.
Investigators said the victim met Zaryanna Renee Marshall, 22, online two days earlier. According to the arrest report, she invited him to her home in the 400 block of Southeast 35th Avenue, where they spent the night.
The report states that around 9 p.m., the two argued, and the man began packing to leave. He told officers Marshall went through his pockets searching for rolling paper used to smoke marijuana.
When he called her “retarded,” Marshall allegedly replied, “You wanna see retarded?” before pulling out a knife and stabbing him once in the back of the neck.
Doctors treated the victim at Jackson South Medical Center.
Marshall told police she acted in self-defense, claiming the man punched her in the face. However, officers said she showed no signs of injury and refused to let them take photographs.
As of Monday morning, Marshall remained jailed without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
