A portion of the northbound 405 Freeway in Sherman Oaks was closed Monday afternoon after a truck carrying bales of hay caught fire, authorities said.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded around 3:50 p.m. and found the truck fully engulfed in flames with heavy smoke. Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze while the California Highway Patrol closed the northbound connector to the 101 Freeway at Ventura Boulevard.
SkyCal footage showed the flatbed truck severely burned and covered in water and foam. Traffic backed up for miles during the closure.
The SigAlert was lifted just before 9:30 p.m. once the truck and debris were cleared. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and it is unclear if the driver was injured.
