Frostproof Man Wanted for Aggravated Assault Surrenders Peacefully to Polk County Sheriff

Jonathan Cory Weese, 32, a Frostproof man with a long criminal record, surrendered peacefully to authorities after being wanted on multiple serious charges, including Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Improper Display of a Firearm.

Authorities were concerned after Weese allegedly threatened a “shootout” with law enforcement, prompting heightened caution. His girlfriend played a key role in preventing a violent confrontation, acting as a liaison between Weese and deputies. She helped arrange a phone conversation that facilitated the surrender.

The standoff ended peacefully on Friday night, October 3, when Weese’s girlfriend drove him to a location where he was met by deputies.

Weese was taken into custody without incident and booked at the Sheriff’s Processing Center, according to Polk County authorities.
