Four Inmates Hospitalized After Riot Erupts at Folsom Prison

A violent riot involving about 20 inmates broke out Monday morning at California State Prison, Sacramento, also known as Folsom Prison, leaving several injured, authorities said.

According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), the disturbance began around 10 a.m. Prison staff used chemical agents, warning shots, and nonlethal weapons to restore order.

The Folsom Fire Department reported that emergency crews arrived roughly 20 minutes later. Five inmates were evaluated on site, with four transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. One inmate declined medical attention.

Officials confirmed that none of the injuries were life-threatening, and no staff members were hurt during the incident. Investigators also recovered four improvised weapons from the scene.

“All incarcerated persons involved will be placed in restricted housing pending investigation,” the CDCR said in a statement.

Movement inside the prison remains restricted as authorities continue to investigate what triggered the violence.
