Tragedy struck Porterville Sunday night when a fire claimed the lives of four children and one adult.
The Porterville Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire on South Indiana Street around 11:18 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames and immediately began rescue efforts.
During the search, they discovered multiple victims inside the home. Despite lifesaving attempts, all five were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have withheld the identities of the victims pending notification of next of kin. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Porterville Fire Chief Bryan Cogburn said, “This is a devastating loss for the family and for our community. Our thoughts and condolences are with the loved ones affected by this tragedy.”
