Former NFL running back Adrian Peterson was arrested in Sugar Land, Texas, on charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI) and unlawful carrying of a weapon, according to jail records.
Police said they took the 40-year-old former Minnesota Vikings star into custody around 9:30 a.m. Sunday, CNN affiliate KHOU reported. This marks Peterson’s second DWI arrest this year.
In April, officers in Minnesota arrested Peterson for driving while impaired after he was pulled over for speeding, according to the Associated Press. That incident occurred following an NFL Draft event for Vikings fans.
Peterson, who grew up in East Texas and still resides in the Houston area, played 15 seasons in the NFL. He earned league MVP honors in 2012 after rushing for over 2,000 yards, becoming one of only nine players in NFL history to achieve that milestone.
His career, however, has not been without controversy. The NFL suspended him in 2014 after he was charged with felony child abuse for allegedly disciplining his 4-year-old son with a switch. Peterson later pleaded no contest to misdemeanor reckless assault, and the league reinstated him in 2015.
Police have not released additional details about his most recent arrest in Sugar Land, a suburb of Houston.
