Fontana Man, 66, Arrested After Breaking Into Crisis Center, Threatening Staff

A 66-year-old Fontana man was arrested early Tuesday after he allegedly smashed a window at the Merrill Crisis Center and threatened staff with a shard of glass, authorities said.

Deputies from the Fontana Sheriff’s Station responded about 3:45 a.m. and identified the suspect as Michael Murrietta, a transient. Employees retreated to safety as Murrietta entered the building and acted erratically, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department.

Deputies de-escalated the situation and took Murrietta into custody without injury. Once booked at the West Valley Detention Center, deputies discovered he had concealed drug paraphernalia.

Murrietta faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism, and bringing drug paraphernalia into a jail.
