Florida Woman Arrested After Threatening to Blow Up High School Over Lunch Dispute

A Florida woman is facing felony charges after allegedly threatening to “burn” and “blow up” Rockledge High School during a heated dispute about a student’s lunch.

According to an arrest affidavit, 40-year-old Brandie Covington called the Rockledge High School cafeteria around 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, enraged that her daughter’s boyfriend had his lunch taken away because of insufficient funds in his account.

School staff said Covington became “irate,” yelling profanities and then threatening to “burn the school down” and “blow that f— school up.” The cafeteria employee immediately ended the call and alerted the school’s resource officer.

Just minutes later, Covington reportedly called the vice principal, identified herself, and repeated the threats after being told the issue couldn’t be discussed with her since she wasn’t related to the student. The vice principal also notified law enforcement.

Investigators from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office visited Covington’s home about three hours later. After being read her Miranda rights, she admitted making the two phone calls but denied making any violent threats, saying she was simply “pissed” about the unresolved lunch issue.

Covington was charged with threatening to discharge a destructive device, a felony offense. She was booked into the Brevard County Jail and later released on $75,000 bond on Thursday.

Authorities confirmed there was no actual danger to the school, but emphasized that all threats against schools are treated seriously.
