A Florida woman has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly beating, biting, and slashing a man to death inside a Holiday Inn Express near Miami International Airport, then hiding his naked body under a bed and draining his bank account.
Elizabeth Hernandez, 39, is accused of killing Jason Anderson in June 2024 and stealing approximately $6,000 from his account, leaving it “at zero dollars,” according to a criminal complaint obtained by Law&Crime. She also faces charges of grand theft and fraudulent use of a credit card.
“The victim’s body was discovered by a maintenance employee who responded to the hotel room to repair a telephone line situated behind the hotel bed,” the complaint states. “Upon inspecting the line, the employee discovered the victim’s body underneath the bed and called 911.”
Hotel records show that Anderson checked in on June 19, with a scheduled checkout the next day. Surveillance footage captured Hernandez arriving with a man identified as Yoan Guzman-Zequeira, 41.
Police say Hernandez killed Anderson before she and Guzman-Zequeira were seen leaving the hotel on June 20, carrying several bags, including what appeared to be bedding or towels. Guzman-Zequeira was allegedly wearing different clothes than when he arrived — possibly the victim’s.
After leaving the hotel, the pair reportedly visited Casino Miami, where they met another man who later accompanied Guzman-Zequeira back to the hotel. The man told police the room was “completely dirty and in disarray,” prompting him to leave immediately after feeling uneasy.
Surveillance footage corroborated his account, according to investigators.
When the maintenance worker later found Anderson’s body, police discovered blood stains on a hallway wall and a bathroom door frame. The medical examiner determined that Anderson suffered blunt-force trauma, facial lacerations, bite marks, and neck hemorrhaging, ruling the cause of death as homicidal violence.
Hernandez remains in custody. Both Guzman-Zequeira and the unnamed witness have not been arrested or charged in connection with the killing.
