Florida Man Indicted for Fatally Shooting Sister After Family Dispute

A grand jury has indicted 57-year-old P. Lineares on charges of first-degree murder and armed burglary in the fatal shooting of his 60-year-old sister, B. Calamita. Prosecutors confirmed they will seek the death penalty if he is convicted.

The case stems from a deadly shooting earlier this year. Authorities say Lineares went to his sister’s workplace wearing a mask, blue gloves, and a hat before opening fire. He shot her multiple times, paused, and then fired a final round before fleeing.

Video surveillance played a critical role in the investigation. The footage shows Lineares approaching the building, entering or waiting near the workplace, carrying out the shooting, and then leaving the scene.

Afterward, prosecutors said he fled Florida and went to Louisiana, where police later arrested him. He remains in county jail awaiting trial.

Investigators believe the motive was tied to a family dispute. Relatives told police Calamita had recently forced her brother out of their mother’s home, saying he failed to contribute financially or help with care. In the weeks before the shooting, they said he repeatedly showed up at her home uninvited. On the day of the attack, he confronted her at work.

When police and first responders arrived, they found Calamita with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers secured the area, gathered shell casings, collected video evidence, and interviewed witnesses. Family members confirmed the eviction dispute and his repeated visits.

Court filings describe the evidence as especially compelling. The state attorney’s office called the attack “brazen,” noting Lineares fired about a dozen shots at close range, including a final shot before leaving.

He is being held without bond. His trial is set to begin in October, where he faces either life in prison or the death penalty if convicted.
