Florida Man Charged In Multi-state Fraud Scheme: Officers

Michael Hummel was detained by Orlando police for allegedly orchestrating a multi-state fraud operation involving more than $400,000 in fake purchases from car dealerships and insurance companies.

Investigations started in May 2022, and they revealed a sophisticated scheme in which Hummel used stolen identities to set up fake businesses and get fraudulent identification.

A thorough investigation revealed to detectives that more than ten related cases from agencies throughout Florida and beyond were connected, resulting in Hummel’s arrest.

According to police, Hummel is charged with first-degree grand theft, scheme to defraud, and four charges of fraudulent use of personal identifying information. The investigation resulted in an 18-page affidavit detailing the deception, which primarily involved high-priced vehicle transactions.
