A 43-year-old Florida man faces multiple charges after allegedly pointing a handgun at a group of juveniles whose boat created a wake near his vessel on the Intracoastal Waterway.
Christopher Evensen was charged with five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of improper exhibition of a dangerous weapon.
According to the New Smyrna Beach Police Department (NSBPD), Evensen became “irate” when the children’s boat passed nearby. Witnesses reported that he yelled threats and allegedly pointed a silver-and-black item resembling a semi-automatic handgun at them. Cellphone footage reportedly shows him reaching into his pocket for the object.
Witness Kevin Buchans said Evensen threatened the children, saying, “Come over here to the boat ramp… and I’ll kill all y’all,” and appeared intoxicated. Buchans added that Evensen offered him whiskey during the confrontation.
Police later tracked Evensen’s boat to a local home and questioned him. He admitted to yelling at the children and acting “stupid,” but initially denied having a firearm, though he later retracted that statement.
Evensen was taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail and later posted $25,500 bail.
