A 20-year-old Florida man, Raul Medina, was taken into custody Wednesday night following a reckless driving incident that involved a police pursuit, a multi-vehicle crash, and one injury. This arrest comes just five months after Medina was charged with street racing.
Collier County Sheriff Rambosk said, “If you endanger our residents, we will take you to jail. Reckless driving has no place in Collier County.”
Incident Details
The incident began around 8 p.m. when deputies with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) observed Medina driving over 100 mph eastbound on Immokalee Road near Wilson Boulevard. Medina attempted to evade deputies by turning off his vehicle’s lights and fleeing.
For public safety, deputies initially discontinued the pursuit, but located Medina again minutes later near Collier Boulevard and Golden Gate Boulevard. During a second attempted traffic stop, Medina tried to flee again, losing control of his vehicle and crashing near Golden Gate Parkway and Tropicana Boulevard.
The crash injured one person, who was transported to a hospital. Investigators also confirmed that Medina struck three additional vehicles during the pursuit.
