A Florida man accused of launching a violent sucker-punch outside an Aldi grocery store that left another shopper in a coma has been arrested, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO).
Dandrea Johnson, 45, was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with felony battery causing great bodily harm, permanent disability, or permanent disfigurement.
The incident occurred on October 11 around 7:00 p.m. at the Aldi on North State Road 7 in Lauderdale Lakes. Surveillance footage showed Johnson and the victim arguing inside the store. After exiting, Johnson allegedly waited outside before striking the victim as he walked out with his service dog. The blow caused the victim to fall and hit his head on the ground, leaving him in a coma.
The victim’s family confirmed he sustained permanent injuries and thanked the public for tips that led to Johnson’s arrest through Crime Stoppers.
During a court appearance Thursday, Johnson claimed the attack was provoked, alleging the victim’s service dog attacked him first.
