Florida Doctor Detained After Unconscious Teen Found At House Party

Dr. Hao Nhu Tran, a 51-year-old Florida physician, was detained early Saturday morning when police discovered an unconscious 15-year-old girl who had been drinking alcohol at a party hosted at the doctor’s home.

Winter Park Police were dispatched to the Chestnut Avenue residence at 12:30 a.m. after receiving reports of intoxicated juveniles. Officers discovered the youngster being treated by paramedics before she was taken to AdventHealth Winter Park Hospital.

Dr. Tran told detectives she held a gathering for her son and classmates, but more unwelcome teenagers arrived. She admitted to observing some adolescents drinking alcohol and purchasing food and beverages for the celebration, but she denied supplying the liquor. Investigators discovered numerous empty alcohol containers, including hard seltzers, throughout the home.

Dr. Tran recognized the girl’s condition as alcohol-related and phoned the teen’s mother, who eventually called 911. The mother declined to seek charges but informed police that Dr. Tran was originally irritated about the emergency call.

Dr. Tran is charged with three misdemeanors: contributing to a minor’s delinquency, hosting an open home party where minors consume alcohol or drugs, and providing or enabling alcohol to be provided to anyone under the age of 21. She was freed from the Orange County Jail with a $1,500 bail.

Dr. Tran graduated from the University of South Florida Health Morsani College of Medicine in 2000. She is an otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeon who practices in Winter Park, Florida. Dr. Tran is affiliated with Winter Park Memorial Hospital.
