Florida Airport Sting Nabs Gang Member in $20K Scam Targeting Elderly Man

A Miami gang member’s international getaway ended in arrest Monday after authorities intercepted him at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in connection with a scam that drained an elderly man’s savings.

Sheldon Adams Vandyke, 26, was taken into custody on Nov. 24, 2025, by deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Miami Police Department. He was wanted on a Monroe County warrant and is identified by investigators as a member of the Miami-based “Any Body Killer” (ABK) gang. Vandyke faces a felony charge of scheming to defraud a person over the age of 65.

The case began on Oct. 17, 2025, when an 84-year-old Lower Keys resident reported receiving a suspicious phone call from someone claiming to work for Bank of America. Believing the call was legitimate, the victim provided his banking information — a mistake that led to the loss of nearly $20,000.

Monroe County detectives worked with banking fraud teams to trace the transactions, eventually linking them to Vandyke. Surveillance video later showed him at Miami ATMs attempting to withdraw cash from accounts created with the stolen information. The Miami Police Department’s Gangs Intelligence Unit confirmed his ABK affiliation and noted he had no known lawful employment.

Sheriff Rick Ramsay praised the teamwork that led to Vandyke’s airport arrest, calling it “a great example of law enforcement partners working together to solve a difficult case.”

Vandyke is being held on a $75,000 bond and will be transported to Monroe County to face charges. Investigators are working with financial institutions to recover the victim’s stolen funds.
