Flood advisory in effect for Glenn, Shasta, and Tehama counties until 10 p.m.

Update: As of 9:47 p.m., the flood advisory has been extended to noon tomorrow and now covers Shasta and Tehama counties. Rain totals have increased to 3 to 6 inches, with roadway flooding continuing.

REDDING, Calif. — The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for Glenn, Shasta, and Tehama counties until 10 p.m. PST as heavy rain caused minor flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.

In Redding, police urged drivers to use caution, warning that flooding has made several roadways dangerous and left some lanes impassable. The department said it received numerous calls involving motorists stranded after attempting to drive through flooded areas.

“Turn around, don’t risk it,” the Redding Police Department said in a public advisory, cautioning that even shallow water can stall vehicles, push them off the roadway, and create hazardous conditions for drivers and first responders.

The weather service reported that 1 to 3 inches of rain had fallen as of Sunday afternoon, with law enforcement confirming roadway flooding across the advisory area. Communities listed include Redding, Red Bluff, Palo Cedro, Shasta Dam, Shasta Lake, Anderson, Keswick, Igo, Mountain Gate, Millville, Whiskeytown, Ono, and Dairyville, among others.

Police advised motorists to avoid flooded roads, use alternate routes, allow extra travel time, and report hazardous conditions when it is safe to do so.
