FBI Offers $25,000 Reward for Tips on Suspects in Violent Robbery of Hikers Near San Diego Border

The FBI’s San Diego Field Office is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the suspects who assaulted and robbed four hikers near the U.S.-Mexico border. The attack left one hiker wounded, the FBI announced.

The robbery happened on Wednesday, January 22, at about 10:37 a.m. when two unidentified Hispanic men reportedly opened fire on the group, injuring one person before stealing their belongings at gunpoint.

Authorities said the suspects fled southwest toward the international border.

In a statement, Special Agent in Charge Mark Dargis vowed that law enforcement would pursue the attackers relentlessly. “The FBI will not stop until we find the individuals responsible for this violent crime on these innocent hikers,” Dargis said, stressing the agency’s commitment to protecting public safety.

The FBI urged anyone with information to contact their local FBI office, the nearest U.S. embassy, or submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov. Tips may be submitted anonymously.

“No one should ever fear being shot at and robbed at gunpoint—regardless of where they are,” Dargis added, reaffirming the FBI’s pledge to use every investigative resource to bring the suspects to justice.
