FBI: 13 Mexican Mafia affiliates apprehended in gang crackdown

Federal officials are crowing after 13 alleged members of a street gang in the Los Angeles Harbor area were detained.

Rancho San Pedro is “one of the most active and violent gangs” in the area, according to an FBI news release.

Akil Davis, the assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office, stated that the operation targeted RSP’s “upper echelon.” The charges include drugs, guns, and racketeering.

“Today’s actions will cause a significant setback to Rancho San Pedro and their Mexican Mafia overlords, and lead to safer streets for San Pedro residents,” Davis informed the crowd.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged eight of the 13 people arrested on Tuesday with federal crimes and five with local offenses.

“These arrests prove the power of partnerships,” said District Attorney Nathan Hochman. “When law enforcement agencies collaborate, we are able to take violent offenders and illegal weapons off our streets. These arrests demonstrate our commitment to restoring safety and trust in every community, especially those that have suffered the most from gang violence. Working with our federal and local partners, we have sent an unequivocally clear warning to violent street gangs — the chance of getting caught and the dire prison consequences for your actions have gone way up. Continue at your own peril.”

If convicted, most of the defendants face life in jail.
