Dozens of people gathered Sunday to pray for Maryland teen Dacara Thompson’s fast return home.
The vigil took place Sunday at the same location in Langley Park where her car and possessions were discovered shortly after her disappearance.
The attendees then proceeded door-to-door, seeking answers.
More than a week after she went missing, Dacara Thompson’s family and loved ones are hopeful that she will come home soon and securely.
“You know, just keep fighting, keep pushing, and every chance you get, baby girl, just find your opportunities to get out and go to anybody, go to anybody and just ask for help,” said her mother, Carmen Thompson.
The 19-year-old appeared to vanish the night of August 22 after leaving her father’s residence in Lanham. He claimed she told him she was going to get gas near their house and would return the next day, but she never did. When they located her car, they discovered it parked in front of a fire hydrant near the intersection of Jasmine Terrace and Riggs Road in Langley Park.
“It was very unusual because I have never known her to come to this area,” her mother said. “We’ve never discussed anything about ever coming to meet anyone over in this area. We don’t know anyone in this area.”
Her father released surveillance video with News4 that was purportedly obtained from a property near where her SUV was discovered. At 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, nearly three hours after her departure from his house, he claimed to have captured her walking away from the vehicle. Her parents said her phone was not left in the car and was disabled.
“If she sees this, hopefully she will just come home,” said her father, Daniel Thompson. “Find somebody’s phone, I don’t know if she has access to her phone, just call 911.”
Prince George’s County police informed News4 that they are investigating the incident and attempting to locate her, but there is no new information at this time.
Dacara Thompson is not deemed critically missing because she is 19 years old and legally recognized as an adult.
On Sunday, the entire neighborhood came together to help her family find her. Leaders in the community are also eager to help them in their search.
“See what nonprofit they’re working for to see if we can give support in that way from the council,” Wanika Fisher, Prince George’s County Council member for District 2, said.
“Something I committed to the family is I’m gonna look be looking at our rules and our standards around missing person reporting here in the county, especially for maybe our young people to see if there’s anything we can adjust to make things easier and make sure law enforcement are on things even sooner,” Fisher also said.
Dacara Thompson’s parents hope that all of this affection will help her find her way home.
“We’re so close,” said her mother. “I love her so much. She knows that, and I hope she can feel my love from afar, and I hope that’s given her strength.”
Her family has not given up on their search. They are requesting community members to disclose any information that may aid the investigation to the police.
