A suspected DUI crash in northwest Bakersfield has left a man in critical condition, according to the Bakersfield Police Department (BPD). Authorities also confirmed that the intersection of Hageman Road and Fruitvale Avenue is closed in all directions as officers conduct their investigation.

Officers responded to the crash involving two vehicles at around 7:03 a.m. on November 2, 2025. When they arrived, they found a Mazda Miata and a Mitsubishi Outlander that had collided in the intersection.

The driver of the Miata sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The driver of the Outlander, a woman, and a juvenile passenger also suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital.

Another passenger in the Outlander, a man, sustained major injuries and is currently in critical condition at the hospital, BPD said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the Outlander driver was traveling eastbound on Hageman Road and had stopped at a red light. When the light turned green, the driver proceeded into the intersection at the same time the Miata, traveling south on Fruitvale Avenue, entered the intersection.

Investigators believe both speed and intoxication were contributing factors in the crash.
