Driver Dies After Crashing Into Guardrail and Center Divider on Highway 99

A driver was killed Friday morning after crashing into a guardrail and then hitting the center divider on Highway 99.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that officers responded around 9:56 a.m. to a solo-vehicle crash on northbound Highway 99, just south of Golden State Avenue.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a male driver in a gray 2012 Toyota Camry was traveling northbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered off the east side of the roadway.

The Toyota struck a metal guardrail on the east shoulder before continuing out of control in a northwesterly direction and colliding with the center divider wall, where it came to rest.

The driver, the sole occupant, suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP closed the number one and two lanes of Highway 99 for approximately three hours to conduct the investigation.

Authorities have not determined whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
