A Democratic Arizona state senator’s decision to publicly warn her community about ICE operations could result in obstruction-of-justice charges, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
Sen. Analise Ortiz admitted on social media to alerting residents about ICE activity in her area. DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin accused Ortiz of “siding with vicious cartels, human traffickers, and violent criminals over American citizens.”
“Notifying the public about ICE law enforcement operations endangers law enforcement and weakens American national security,” McLaughlin told Fox News Digital, adding that the move “certainly looks like obstruction of justice.”
DHS Raises Safety Concerns
McLaughlin pointed to DHS statistics showing an 830% increase in assaults on ICE officers, arguing that “sanctuary politicians” are fueling the trend through “vilification and demonization” of ICE.
The controversy began after the conservative social media page Libs of TikTok posted a screenshot of what it said was Ortiz’s alert, warning in English and Spanish, “ICE is present,” along with a location. The account accused Ortiz of “actively impeding and doxxing ICE” and called for charges.
Ortiz Responds
Ortiz confirmed she posted the warnings, writing, “Yep. When ICE is around, I will alert my community to stay out of the area.” In another post seemingly aimed at critics, she said, “I’m not f*****g scared of you nor Trump’s masked goons.”
Arizona Senate President Warren Petersen condemned her actions, saying public servants must uphold the law and support law enforcement. Petersen referred the matter to the U.S. Attorney for possible federal charges.
Ortiz remained defiant, posting on X, “I will not be intimidated. I will alert our community to avoid the area when Trump’s masked thugs terrorize us all, regardless of citizenship. Trump doesn’t respect our laws nor our constitution. My duty is to keep people safe from his unconstitutional and authoritarian actions.”
