A 21-year-old Detroit man has been charged in connection with the death of his girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter nearly a year after the fatal incident, Wayne County prosecutors announced Friday.
Prosecutors allege that Lovenia Spivey, 21, violently assaulted the child on Nov. 15, 2024, at a home in the 14000 block of Riverview Street in Detroit. The child was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she died three days later on Nov. 18, 2024. According to prosecutors, the Wayne County Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head.
Spivey was taken into custody on Nov. 14, 2025, and now faces charges of felony murder and first-degree child abuse. He is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday morning.
