The Hernando Police Department arrested a DeSoto County Justice Court judge on Monday morning, according to the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office.
Karen Sanders was arrested and charged with DUI and irresponsible driving on Saturday.
The night Sanders was arrested, a Hernando City judge released her on her own recognizance, according to DCSO.
Judge Sanders, according to the justice court clerk, is still employed by the courts and will continue to take cases.
Sanders has been a member of the DeSoto County Justice Court since 1999, and he is up for re-election in 2027, according to our records.
“I am quite startled, but humans are human, and everyone makes mistakes. “No one is perfect,” says Hernando resident Gigi Duffy.
“She is a part of the judicial system, so she should submit to it and let the chips fall where they may.” “She is either guilty or not guilty, just like everyone else she has judged in her judicial career,” Duffy stated.
Sanders will appear in court on April 26th, according to Hernando Police. According to HPD, the inquiry is underway.
