Prosecutors in Pennsylvania announced they will seek the death penalty for two women accused of a horrific crime: killing 9-year-old Renesmay Eutsey, placing her body in a tote bag, and leaving it along a riverbank.

Authorities charged Kourtney Eutsey, 31, and Sarah Shipley, 35, with first-degree murder. The Fayette County District Attorney’s Office said “aggravated circumstances” in the case justify pursuing capital punishment.
The investigation began on September 3 when Renesmay was reported missing. The following day, Pennsylvania State Police found her body inside a bag along the Youghiogheny River.
Police discovered a key lead when another child in the home provided a chilling account. As officers prepared to search Kourtney Eutsey’s residence, the child reportedly approached them and “apologized for not telling the truth.”
