A 40-year-old man was sentenced to 45 months in prison for illegally possessing a semi-automatic weapon and dealing crack cocaine, according to US Attorney Jeanine Pirro.
Cevin Belton pleaded guilty to the offenses on September 5. His arrest came earlier this year, after he led police on a foot chase through Southeast D.C.
During the chase, Belton tried to discard a gun he had hidden in his waistband. According to Pirro, officers eventually apprehended him and seized 15.5 grams of crack and $157 in cash.
They also discovered the weapon he attempted to dispose of, a Springfield Armory Hellcat 9mm semiautomatic pistol.
Belton later admitted that he wanted to sell the crack. In addition to his nearly four-year prison sentence, he will be released under supervision for three years.
Belton had already been convicted of other offenses in Prince George’s County and served eight years in jail, according to Pirro.
The Metropolitan Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives both investigated his case in Washington, D.C.
