The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified the two people killed in a Highway 65 crash as 76-year-old Napoleon Frayna Grande and 66-year-old Susan Julian Grande, both residents of Daly City.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash happened around 11:44 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the intersection of Highway 65 and Famoso Road. Investigators said Napoleon Grande was driving a 2016 Honda Fit eastbound on Famoso Road when he failed to stop at a posted stop sign and entered the intersection. A 2014 Freightliner tractor-trailer, driven by a 55-year-old man heading southbound on Highway 65, struck the Honda on the driver’s side.
The impact forced the Honda off the road, where it came to rest on the east dirt shoulder. The Freightliner also went out of control, hitting a dirt embankment and overturning, blocking the southbound lane and partially obstructing northbound traffic.
Both Napoleon and Susan Grande died at the scene. The Freightliner driver was taken to Kern Medical Hospital for treatment.
CHP confirmed that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the deadly crash.
