A convicted murderer with a long history of violent crime is back in custody after the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) and the U.S. Marshals Task Force arrested him in connection with a September shooting in Tampa.
Jontavis Williams, 41, was taken into custody Thursday on an outstanding warrant tied to a September 11, 2025, shooting on the 12800 block of Beddington Court.
According to HCSO, Williams allegedly shot his mother’s neighbor after an argument erupted between the two women. Deputies responding to the scene found the victim suffering from a serious injury caused by a single gunshot wound.
Williams, who has a prior conviction for second-degree murder, now faces a lengthy list of new charges, including:
-
Attempted Second-Degree Murder (Firearm – Great Bodily Harm)
-
Aggravated Battery, Great Bodily Harm or Deadly Weapon (Firearm – Discharge)
-
Felon in Possession of a Firearm
-
Shooting At, Within, or Into a Building
In addition to the September charges, Williams was also wanted by the Tampa Police Department in a separate investigation involving an October 5, 2025, firearm offense. He faces further charges related to that case as well.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister praised the coordinated effort that led to Williams’ arrest, highlighting the threat he posed to the public.
“We will not tolerate violent offenders terrorizing our community. The fact that this convicted felon continued to carry and use a firearm shows his complete disregard for the law and public safety,” Chronister said. “Thanks to our detectives and law enforcement partners, this dangerous criminal is behind bars.”
