Colombian ‘Drug Lord’ Arrested in Central Florida for 29 Murders

ORLANDO, Fla. – Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested Colombian drug lord Guillermo Perez Alzate in Central Florida this month over his alleged role in 29 murders and other crimes.

ICE described Perez as a “confessed murderer and criminal alien” and identified him as a former paramilitary leader of the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia. This transnational criminal organization funds its operations through drug trafficking.

U.S. authorities extradited Perez in 2008 to face drug smuggling charges alongside 13 other alleged members of the group. A Florida court later sentenced him to 17 years in prison for conspiracy to import and traffic cocaine. During his trial, Perez admitted to killing 29 people.

Georgia correctional officers arrested him again in 2009 for another cocaine importation conspiracy. In 2017, an immigration judge in Orlando ordered his deportation, though the removal was deferred.

ICE officials said Perez will now face justice in Colombia for his alleged crimes.
