The U.S. Coast Guard detained six people aboard a sailboat in Mission Bay on Saturday, including four immigrants suspected of being in the country illegally.
At about 11:15 a.m., a Coast Guard Sector San Diego boarding team intercepted the 36-foot sailboat after receiving a report of a suspicious vessel heading toward Mission Bay. The crew directed the boat to a nearby dock and boarded it for inspection.
“The boarding team identified six people aboard the vessel. Four were aliens, including three adults and one unaccompanied minor, who claimed Mexican nationality. Additionally, the boarding team identified two American citizens who claimed to own the vessel,” the Coast Guard said in a statement.
Authorities transferred all six individuals to another U.S. Department of Homeland Security agency for custody and seized the vessel.
Officials have not released additional details.
