At least one person was killed following a vehicle-pedestrian crash on Highway 178 Sunday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol’s website, the crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian was reported around 9:08 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2026, on westbound Highway 178 near Union Avenue.
The CHP website noted that the Union Avenue off-ramp was closed following the incident.
The Kern County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene.
Authorities have not released the identity of the person who died, and it remains unclear whether anyone else was injured in the crash.
