Chicago Man Sentenced To 10 Years In Prison For 2023 Shooting On North Orleans Street In Mchenry

On November 25, 2025, Michael D. Harris, 36, of Chicago, Illinois, was sentenced to ten years in the Illinois Department of Correction. Judge Tiffany Davis imposed the sentence after Harris pleaded guilty to aggravated battery with a firearm, a class X felony.

The incident occurred on May 16, 2023. McHenry Police officers responded to reports of shooting on North Orleans Street in McHenry, Illinois. Officers discovered Theodore King with a gunshot wound in his leg. King stated that an unidentified man shot him following a physical altercation in an adjacent apartment.

Witnesses identified the shooter as “CJ,” who fled the scene in a red pickup. Police traced the vehicle to Michael D. Harris and established his identification using a photo lineup. Harris eventually confessed to the shooting during a police interrogation.

Under state law, Harris must serve at least 85% of his sentence before being released. He will subsequently be subject to three years of obligatory supervised release. Assistant State Attorney Justin Neubauer prosecuted the case. The State’s Attorney’s Office praised the victim, witnesses, and law enforcement for their cooperation in the investigation.
