California Man Sentenced to 14 Years for Trafficking Meth in Oregon

A California man has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for trafficking more than 11 pounds of methamphetamine from California to Oregon, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon announced Tuesday.

Luis Banuelos, 34, of Lynwood, was handed a 168-month sentence, followed by five years of supervised release, for his role in a multi-state drug trafficking operation.

According to court documents, Banuelos was arrested on February 28, 2021, by the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement (CODE) team after driving a shipment of methamphetamine from California to a customer in Prineville, Oregon. Officers who searched his vehicle found two boxes containing over 11 pounds of meth.

During questioning, Banuelos admitted to transporting meth from California to Oregon on at least seven separate occasions.

He was formally charged on August 4, 2022, with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. He pleaded guilty to the charge on October 31, 2022.

The case was investigated by the CODE team in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Delph.
