A Lynwood, California resident has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for trafficking methamphetamine from California into Oregon.
Luis Banuelos, 34, received a sentence of 168 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release, federal authorities announced Monday.
According to court documents, Banuelos was arrested on February 28, 2021, after transporting over 11 pounds of meth to Prineville, Oregon. The arrest was part of a larger investigation by the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement (CODE) team. Officers located two boxes of meth in Banuelos’s vehicle. He later admitted to making seven drug runs from California to Oregon.
Banuelos was formally charged on August 4, 2022, with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. He pleaded guilty to the charge on October 31, 2022.
The case was jointly investigated by CODE and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Delph for the District of Oregon.
