HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. — California remains the most expensive state in the nation to buy a live Christmas tree this season, with prices averaging about $75 more than the national norm.
On the North Coast, Daman Mullins, owner of Daman and Kim’s Christmas Trees, said rising demand and higher transportation costs have pushed prices up across the state. Despite those pressures, Mullins decided not to raise prices this year, citing ongoing financial challenges faced by residents in Humboldt County.
“In the bigger cities, he definitely raised on everybody but myself, so I kind of tugged at his heartstrings a little bit to keep the prices where they were,” Mullins said. “I didn’t feel like I could do that to our community — trying to get more for trees when they’re already expensive.”
Mullins said his pricing remains based on size and height, with most trees selling for about $10 per foot.
