BPD Arrests 19-Year-Old in Shooting Near Kern County Fairgrounds

Bakersfield police arrested a 19-year-old man Thursday in connection with a shooting that injured another teenager near the Kern County Fairgrounds earlier this week.

Thomas Anderson, 19, faces charges of attempted murder, multiple weapons violations, and gang-related offenses, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

The department’s Special Enforcement Unit and Violent Criminal Apprehension Team took Anderson into custody in the 700 block of Decatur Street without incident.

Investigators said Anderson met the victim in the 1100 block of Terrace Way on September 22, where he allegedly shot the 19-year-old man. The wounded victim managed to drive to the 700 block of South P Street, where bystanders found him and called 911 around 10 p.m. He was hospitalized and remains in stable condition.

A ShotSpotter activation had gone off at 9:58 p.m. on Terrace Way the same night, though no residents reported hearing gunfire.

This incident marked the second shooting near the fairgrounds in less than a week, following a fatal shooting on Vine Drive on September 17.

Police urge anyone with information to call the Bakersfield Police Department at (661) 327-7111.
